Timeline

How do you chronicle a time when the world is turned upside down? All Ukrainians' lives were upended in early 2022. Here are a few snapshots--along with how Project Ollie began.

Feb 2022 - Russia attacks Ukraine, Kharkiv under heavy rocket shelling. Jing attends protest at City Hall in San Francisco.

April 2022 - Shevchenkove captured by Russian forces.

May 2022 - More than 20% of Ukraine is under occupation. Jing launches first swim cap fundraiser.

June 2022 - Shevchenkove remains under Russian occupation. Jing and Liliia Galperina arrange to send urgent medical supplies and an EKG machine to the village hospital.

September 8, 2022 - Shevchenkove is liberated by the Ukrainian army.

Oct 2022 - Jing sends essential toiletries, hygiene products and pantry staple foods to Ukraine. They are distributed through the local schools. 

November 14, 2022 - Shevchenkove is  bombed by Russian forces. Both schools are damaged in the attacks.

Nov 16, 2022 - Jing launches second swim cap fundraiser along with a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the damaged schools. 

Dec 2022 - Jing and Liliia send humanitarian packages with essential toiletries and pantry staple foods to Kharkiv teachers.

Dec 2022 - Shevchenkove's schools are still closed and students are engaged in distance learning. Construction materials (such as plywood for the windows) are procured to help repair the schools. 

Jan 2023 - US-based Lantern Project steps in to support Ukrainian students and schools with a donation. These funds are used to purchase holiday gifts of school supplies and sweets for children and holiday gifts for teachers.

Jan 2023 -  School 1 installs its new front door, supported by Project Ollie.

Jan 2023 - Project Ollie begins to take shape. 

Feb 2023 - Project Ollie distributes school supplies to children in grades 1-7 and a new video surveillance system to Shevchenkove School 1.
